Africa Must Unite, for a new Ghana

The Association Africa Must Unite was founded in 2008 by Samia Yaba Nkrumah, the daughter of Kwame Nkrumah, with the help of a further six founding members as to support the process of development of the land and population of Ghana in a concrete way. It aims to achieve fair and equal economic and social conditions by removing the obstacles deriving from poverty and the lack of the material conditions necessary for having a dignified life. The Association makes direct and indirect contributions in the sectors of health care, safeguarding the environment, schools and education, infrastructures and social assistance.

The activity of Africa Must Unite

The first efforts of the Association will be concentrated in a relatively small area of Ghana, the region of Jomoro on the border with the Ivory Coast. It is one of the poorest zones of the country and also has a very strong symbolic value since in this region Nkrumah attended the primary schools of the village of Half Assini.

According to the principles
of Kwame Nkrumah

Educating people to be non-violent and democratic, with respect for human rights and an economy in line with the ethics of sustainability and responsibility are the basic aims and of the Association. These principles are inspired by the ideas of the great African leader Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana who conceived the pan-African movement that promotes political unity and the sense of a common identity among African countries (particularly those of Black Africa) and the Association intends to continue his endeavours to set up institutions that could make this sentiment of unity effective.

The first projects

» Bringing water to the villages of Jomoro
Many villages still do not have communal wells and a tap for drinking water and the inhabitants are forced to make a long and arduous journey of many hours to fetch the water which is necessary for the most basic daily tasks.

» Giving the opportunity for young people of the villages to have schools
and adequate schooling

Many schools are inadequate or even unusable due to the poor condition of their roofs and structures. The project aims to intervene mainly by means of the construction and renovation of schools but also to provide all the material and psychological support necessary for the implementation of schooling and professional training that will allow young people to develop their skills and become competitive in the world of work.
